A LIL’ SOMETHING ABOUT ME…

Hi! I’m Atira.

And it warms my heart that you’re here.

I’m a somatic trauma specialist and educator, author, activist, and passionate philanthropist dedicated to supporting you transform your pain into power and freedom.

Hi,

I’m Atira.

I help individuals through somatic trauma resolution to reclaim their inner sovereignty, love, and empowerment and educate teachers and facilitators in creating safer spaces for every Body.

From the brothels of Nepal to the Amazonian jungles of Peru, I’ve spent the last 17 years supporting thousands of trauma survivors through activism, education, and group and individual sessions.

I’m on a mission to create safer spaces, both within our bodies, and out in the world.

Singapore-born and Melbourne bred, in my essence, I hold a strong vision for all beings to live in freedom, sovereignty, and power.

A deep devotion to life, coupled with the rigors of decades of feminine practices in yoga, meditation, and service, are the foundations for my dedication to bringing more safety, wisdom, and peace to the world.

I’m 100% committed to guiding people back to their essential and innate power and wisdom through somatic trauma approaches, embodied trauma education, and spiritual practices such as yoga and meditation, held with deep compassion, self-acceptance, and love.

“My mission is to inspire others to step into their TRUTH,

to LOVE themselves wholeheartedly

and to EMPOWER their unique EXPRESSION in the world.”

I’m a senior yoga and meditation teacher (500 E-RYT), art therapist (M.A. Expressive Art Therapy & Grad Dip. Transpersonal Art Therapy), a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), a somatic trauma specialist in sexual abuse recovery and trauma educator, TED speaker & #1 best-selling author. I’m currently completing my Ph.D. studies in Expressive Art Therapies.

I’m also the founder & CEO of Art to Healing, an Australian registered charity committed to supporting the recovery of girls and women who have experienced sex slavery, exploitation, and abuse, in Asia and the Pacific. I’ve created and delivered numerous trauma-informed and psychosocial programs in art therapy, counseling, yoga, and mindfulness, from the slums of Kathmandu to the refugee camps in Burma. I have supported the recovery of thousands of women and children since 2005 to live lives free from sex slavery and exploitation.

My Sacred Activism work includes creating and directing Yoga for Freedom, a global Yoga and Social Change movement, which has raised over $65,000 for various global social justice issues since 2016.

But more importantly, fusing embodied spirituality with social change, my rich and wondrous life has led me on an intent search for awakening, love, and service to humanity.

SPEAKER, AUTHOR, EDUCATOR.

I’ve spoken at TED, published a #1 best-selling book, written articles in peer-reviewed journals and educated thousands of students in trauma-informed programs, universities and organisations.

TRANSFORMING PAIN INTO POWER…

Hailing from Singapore, I understand the disempowerment and disconnection from my feminine wisdom, power and sovereignty. I understand the unworthiness, fear and doubt. Growing up in a conservative, traditional Asian culture and conditioning where women are treated unequally to men, I was raised with a deep unconscious shame of being born female.

15 years ago I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. A devout yogi immersed in wellness, healthy eating and personal development, this news was a complete shock for me. After my first operation, my doctor informed me that cancer had spread. In disbelief, I refused chemotherapy, choosing instead to listen to the loud inner voice of my intuition:

I had the power to heal myself.

I set out on a powerful journey of healing.

In this time, I uncovered and healed the feminine wounding and trauma of my ancestry, my sexuality, my body, and emerged the other side: healed, whole, and 15 years cancer-free. I’ve been honoured to share this knowledge of reclaiming sovereignty, healing ancestral trauma and embodying freedom with other women and men all over the world.

I am passionate about supporting other BIPOC women to heal their bodies, recover from trauma, reclaim their power, and live, love, and lead from their hearts.
